This past weekend the Camburg Kids won the M.O.R.E. Freedom Cup race out at Glen Helen Raceway, CA. Check out the video recap below along with our full race report and photo gallery.
Coming off their race win at the M.O.R.E “Mojave Offroad Racing Enthusiasts” McKenzie’s 250, the Camburg Kids were chomping at the bit to get back in their Class 1400 Camburg Racing Ford Ranger. The next race in the series would be the 2-day Freedom Cup at the infamous Glen Helen Raceway. This was a unique race course with a mixture of motocross jumps, short course corners and some sand washes all mixed into one with a side-by-side start. They would qualify Saturday morning to determine starting position, race Saturday afternoon and then race again Sunday midday.
Cody having a little more short course experience behind the wheel would qualify the truck. With his brother Corey co-driving with him, they did a quick pre-run lap to scope out the course and then they were off. The jumps were big and the corners were slick which is vastly different from open desert racing. They put down a solid qualifying lap with their gut feeling of a top 3 finish. When it was all said and done, the Camburg Kidsqualified 1st in their class and would be in the first group off the line for the afternoon race.
With a quick wipe down and look over, the truck was ready for Day 1’s afternoon race. Cody would be driving with Corey co-driving like earlier and their plan was to run their qualifying pace for 8 full laps. The green flag dropped, Cody was off and they pulled out front right away and into the lead on the iconic Glen Helen banked corner. They focused on the task at hand; to stay out front and run a consistent pace. You can easily over jump or blow a corner and lose positions with a lapse in judgement. The truck was working awesome and they were being smart working their way through slower/lapped traffic. Cody not only put down the fastest lap time of the day in the 1400 class but more importantly won the race with a commanding lead of almost 2 minutes.
Now it was time for Corey to put his money where his mouth is with Cody co-driving with him on Sunday’s Day 2 race. Once again, the General Tires hooked up and gave them the holeshot into the first corner. They pulled ahead and never looked back. The Camburg Kids were having fun and throwing down super consistent lap times. Not only did Corey have the fastest lap of the day but also of the weekend. With that speed he crossed the finish line in 1st place and the Camburg Kids won the overall for the weekend in the 1400 class.
Having missed the 1st race of the season, the Camburg Kids have won the following 2 races in a row and are hungry for another win and now have their sights on the Class Championship. Their next race will be close to 300 miles in Johnson Valley, CA in September which they are already excited for.

The Camburg Kids 2001 Ford Ranger Edge showcases Camburg’s suspension and racing parts along with their sponsors. For the front suspension the truck is outfitted with Camburg’s race series long-travel kit that utilizes their 2.50 front race hubs, FK heims and uniballs and a HOWE steering box with FOX’s 2.5 coilovers, 3.0 bypass shocks and 2.5 bump stops. The rear suspension is made up of Camburg’s 4-link kit connected to their 4.00 rear axle housing running their 3.25 race hubs. With FOX’s 2.5 coilovers, 3.5 bypass shocks and 2.5 bump stops there is plenty of control in the rear. The chassis and suspension are coated with STEEL-IT for optimum corrosion resistance and protection. Powering the truck is a K&N filtered 600hp Moruzzi built LS engine with a Magnaflow exhaust mated to a Culhane built Turbo 400 transmission that is fed by a custom Pyrotect fuel cell. A Optima Yellow Top Battery powers the electronics and OnX Offroad provides their GPS navigation. The Ranger sits on 37” General Tire Grabber X3 tires and 17” KMC Wheels forged Mesa beadlock wheels. In the cockpit the kids are strapped into Sparco EVO seats with their Sparco steering wheel and Rugged Radios communication in arms reach along with an assortment of Scosche powersports mounts and accessories. When day turns to night, they rely on their Baja Designs LED series of lights.
