The Camburg Kids took 2nd place at the M.O.R.E. 300 race out in Johnson Valley, CA. Check out the video recap below along with our full race report and photo gallery.
With back to back wins and the overall points lead in the M.O.R.E “Mojave Offroad Racing Enthusiasts” 1400 class, the Camburg Kids were ready to get back into the driver’s seat. Their next race was out in Johnson Valley, CA known for the King of the Hammers area, that would start in the afternoon and end in the early night.
The team headed out Friday to setup main pit and to pre-run in their Camburg Ford Ranger race truck and in their new Polaris RZR Pro R to get “eyes on” the race course and make any adjustments. With the amount of monsoonal rain Southern California has seen lately, mother nature made some changes to the desert floor since they were last out there.
For Saturday’s race, Cody Campbell would start with brother Corey co-driving with him. They were off the line and put down a pace to stay out front right away. Having a morning race take place prior, the course was pretty torn up and dusty so they had to stay focused. After the 1st lap they were sitting in 2nd place only 22 seconds behind the leader. They continued the same pace and came into main pit at the end of lap 2 for a driver change and a splash of fuel.
For lap 3 Corey moved over into the driver’s seat with Eric jumping in as co-driver and they set out back on course. Corey ran a similar pace as the 2 laps prior since he was familiar with the course. They were still sitting in 2nd place and this gave the opportunity to show Eric the pace needed to stay out front with Zach Zaiden getting in the following lap. Corey pulled into main pit at the end of the 3rd lap for fuel and would hand it over to Zach to take it to the finish line.
Zach got in the truck for laps 4 and 5 to the finish with Eric co-driving. Lap 4 was pretty uneventful, they were charging hard and still sitting in 2nd place and gained some time on the leader. On the last lap they had an issue with the radiator fans not working. With outside air temps dropping as night fell, the engine was able to run ok when they were moving at a conservative speed to get enough air flow. When they got into the slower tighter terrain the temps would climb. Towards the end of lap 5, they got into a situation where the truck got stuck because it was running hot and under-powered. Thankfully, they were able to get un-stuck and back up and running. Even with those issues they were only 10-15 minutes off their normal lap times.
The Camburg Kids crossed the finish line in 2nd place with an overall time of 5 hours 56 minutes. Not only did they finish on the podium but they extended their overall class championship points lead. They’re all looking forward to wrapping it up in December at the last race of the season out in Barstow, CA.

Glad to see the kids stick to the game plan and come out with a 2nd place finish and bigger points lead.”

The Camburg Kids 2001 Ford Ranger Edge showcases Camburg’s suspension and racing parts along with their sponsors. For the front suspension the truck is outfitted with Camburg’s race series long-travel kit that utilizes their 2.50 front race hubs, FK heims and uniballs and a HOWE steering box with FOX’s 2.5 coilovers, 3.0 bypass shocks and 2.5 bump stops. The rear suspension is made up of Camburg’s 4-link kit connected to their 4.00 rear axle housing running their 3.25 race hubs. With FOX’s 2.5 coilovers, 3.5 bypass shocks and 2.5 bump stops there is plenty of control in the rear. The chassis and suspension are coated with STEEL-IT for optimum corrosion resistance and protection. Powering the truck is a K&N filtered 600hp Moruzzi built LS engine with a Magnaflow exhaust mated to a Culhane built Turbo 400 transmission that is fed by a custom Pyrotect fuel cell. A Optima Yellow Top Battery powers the electronics and OnX Offroad provides their GPS navigation. The Ranger sits on 37” General Tire Grabber X3 tires and 17” KMC Wheels forged Mesa beadlock wheels. In the cockpit the kids are strapped into Sparco EVO seats with their Sparco steering wheel and Rugged Radios communication in arms reach along with an assortment of Scosche powersports mounts and accessories. When day turns to night, they rely on their Baja Designs LED series of lights.
